You are kindly invited to participate in the international scientific conference
CONCEPTUAL FOUNDATIONS OF LANGUAGE AND LANGUAGES
The conference is a scientific meeting dedicated to the study and consideration of language from a cognitive perspective. Since its birth, cognitive linguistics has almost always emphasised the relationship between language and conceptual structure as the basis of meaning. Drawing on the empirical research of cognitive psychologists and the observations of philosophers of language, cognitive linguists have created a new cognitive paradigm based on the so-called cognitive commitment, which treats language as a product of embodied human cognition and cognitive processes such as categorisation, schematisation, concept formation based on cognitive domains, intra- and inter-domain mapping, conceptual integration and intersubjectivity. Although these processes appear to be universal, they may occur differently in different languages, resulting in sometimes major differences between languages.
The aim of our conference is to provide an opportunity to learn about new research and findings in these core areas of cognitive linguistics, as well as new concepts and theories about the relationship between cognitive structures and linguistic forms in particular languages or language types.
The problems and areas of research we intend to focus on are as follows:
-
Categorisation - its levels and representations;
-
Image schemas as a basis for conceptualisation;
-
Iconicity of language;
-
The Great Chain of Being - its significance for language;
-
Domains, models and cognitive frameworks in thought and language;  Metaphor and metonymy in semantics, grammar and discourse;
-
Polysemy in morphology, lexical semantics and construction grammar;  Semantic (lexical) relations from a cognitive perspective;
-
Conceptual and constructional alternations;
-
Information structure in grammar and discourse;
-
Discourse as the basis of language structure;
-
Social contexts in the creation of meaning;
-
Linguistic creativity in morphology, lexis and syntax.
